The much-loved Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair will be returning to the rooftop of Hyde Park Corner, Jo’burg from 9-11 October. Digital editor Carina Claassens finds out what we can look forward to
Over the past six years, this boutique lifestyle event has managed to cement its position as an invaluable platform for the work of the country’s top artisanal producers.
“While we’ve always appreciated our exhibitors’ beautiful products, the focus has now shifted to understanding how these items came to be and recognising the passion and creativity that went into their production,” says fair curator Roberta Thatcher.
Mia Widlake, co-owner of Studio 19, has been selected as this year’s featured designer and will give the fair a fresh, breezy aesthetic inspired by on-trend palettes and materials. Two new sections will also be introduced – an open-air Bloody Mary lounge and a festive beer garden.
Guests can look forward to tucking into amazing food from Braeside Meat Boutique, Coobs, FORAGER., Liège Café, Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream and many, many more.
Exhibitors YSWARA, Goet, Dark Horse and Missibaba will return to the fair, while newcomers include Zana, Leg Studios as well as Bunny & Clyde. This year’s fair boasts a record breaking 120 exhibitors, so there’ll be loads to see and buy.
Pre-sale tickets are available online via webtickets.co.za for R90 each or at the door for R110 (kids under 12 enter free). Please note there will be a free Park and Ride from Hyde Park High School. For more information on the Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair, visit sanlamhmc.co.za
