Spier Wine Farm, one of South Africa’s oldest and most celebrated working wine farms, has opened the doors to its newly transformed hotel, marking a major milestone for the Western Cape’s tourism landscape.
The revamped Spier Hotel welcomed its first guests on 1 March 2025, offering a fresh take on luxury that blends sustainability, heritage, and immersive experiences.
The hotel’s reinvention comes at a time when international travel to Africa is shifting, with visitors seeking more meaningful and authentic stays. Cape Town Tourism CEO Enver Duminy highlighted its impact, calling it a ‘milestone in Cape Town’s tourism evolution,’ as Spier continues to set new standards in purpose-driven hospitality.

Set within rewilded indigenous gardens boasting 39 000 fynbos plants, the hotel offers 80 luxury rooms and suites, two new farm-to-table restaurants, a rooftop bar, a heated pool, and a 640m² wellness spa featuring a signature Cape Herbal Bath House. The property’s renowned contemporary South African art collection further enhances the experience.
The Enthoven family, custodians of Spier since 1993, have long envisioned the farm as a sanctuary of connection and tranquillity. ‘The farm and hotel are a place of peace, simple yet timeless, offering comfort that never shouts,’ says Mariota Enthoven, who led the project.
With immersive farm experiences, a nature-inspired kids’ programme, and premium wellness offerings, the new Spier Hotel is redefining hospitality in the Cape Winelands, promising an experience that lingers long after guests depart.
