Art director Hema Nana discovers some innovative ways to upcycle pallets for your home and garden
I’m in the middle of moving into a new home and as exciting as it all is, it’s also quite expensive. I’m a huge fan of DIY projects so as you can imagine Pinterest is my best friend. I was looking for inexpensive yet clever furniture ideas as a temporary solution for my new home and I came across so many stylish ideas using pallets.
Pallets are very easy to find, making them really cheap and sometimes even free. With some creativity you can transform them into furnishings. Here are some of my favourite ideas for upcycling them:
Vertical gardens
A pallet vertical garden was one of the first ideas I stumbled across. This would be a perfect solution for a small garden and making two of these would give me ample space to grow a variety of fresh herbs.
Pallet tables
I’ve been looking around for furniture, but I’m having no luck sourcing certain items (like a coffee table). I don’t want to buy something I’m not happy with, so I thought creating one out of an old pallet would be a great temporary solution until I find one that I like. I love the idea of adding wheels to a coffee table, making it easy to move about, and a glass top finishes it off. I could always move the table onto the patio when I eventually purchase a coffee table.
Pallet hanging chair
If only I had a pergola or a place to hang a pallet swing. I’d dress it up with a selection of scatters and throws.
