1715 by Martell Cognac fuses fine cuisine, luxury aesthetics and world-class entertainment to celebrate the launch of the brand in South Africa. Digital editor Carina Claassens visited the concept bar and lounge in Sandton, Jo’burg
1715 by Martell Cognac is a pop-up bar and lounge at the Sandton Eye and is, sadly, only open until 21 November. The idea behind the bar is to introduce Martell Cognac (surprisingly easy drinking) to South Africa and show that cognac can be enjoyed in a setting that doesn’t necessarily include heavy hardcover books, cigars and Chesterfield sofas.
Another highlight is the food. Two of South Africa’s biggest foodie names, Caro de Waal and Vicky Crease, collaborated to bring guests an exciting menu paired with the Martell Cognac range.
Blending French heritage with South African flair, dishes combine luxurious ingredients such as duck liver, whipped cauliflower and toasted walnuts with reductions of the indigenous num plant, herbal dust, wild rosemary and lemon buchu, to name a few.
Guests can indulge in delicious food perfectly paired with two of Martell’s variants – Caractère and Noblige – plus a bespoke Martell Cognac cocktail (definitely try the cocktails).
The pairing luncheons take place every Wednesday and Friday from 12h30 to 15h30 until 21 November. To find out more about 1715 by Martell Cognac and to book, visit 1715.co.za
