Thinking about growing some vegetables this spring? Here are some tips and tricks to get your veggie garden sprouting!
Preparation
Prep your veggie beds. Remember, less digging is the way to go nowadays. Use well-rotted compost and straw mulch with organic pesticides for soil the way Mother Nature intended it to be.
Creation
Create walkways between the beds if you have the space – this stops foot traffic, which results in compaction of the soil. Not good for thirsty roots!
Decisions, decisions
Decide on the positioning of your climbing veggies, such as beans or marrows, and put up the trellising before you start sowing seed.
Lighting
Lightly prune last season’s herbs such as thyme, oreganum and basil and give them a good seaweed foliar feed for a spring rejuvenation.
Harvest
Harvest the last of winter’s leaf crops such as lettuce and chard, but remember your crop rotation principles and plan to plant a different crop in its place.
