Why did you choose this career?
I enjoyed working with my parents in the garden when I was I child. They were keen gardeners and we spent many weekends driving from one nursery to the next. It was a hobby that I could successfully convert into a career.
Where did you study?
At The University of Pretoria, BSc. Agric (Horticulture)(Hons)
If you weren’t in the herb/plant industry what would you be?
A graphic designer.
What is your biggest inspiration?
The words of George Bernard Shaw, “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”
What has been the highlight of your career?
Owning and running my own business, Doonholm.
Top tip for anyone wanting to enter this industry?
Try to get exposed to all the different facets of the industry (retail, growing and landscaping) early on in your career. This way you’ll find your passion and the best way to express your unique talent.
Your guilty pleasure?
Mayonnaise!
What current trend is your favourite?
From garden to kitchen – lately all popular chefs are focusing on growing their own produce and then turning it into scrumptious meals.
What is your favourite section of your garden and why?
The fish pond area. It’s a lovely, cool spot, and the relaxing sound of flowing water makes it the ideal place to enjoy a glass of red wine and watch my dogs play at the end of a long day.
What’s your indispensable gadget?
My Apple devices. They make life so much easier, productive and creative.
