Encourage the kids to get outdoors and involved in the garden with this easy and creative craft. All you need are a few rocks, some paint, and your imagination.
You will need:
- Flat rocks
- Acrylic paints
- Paintbrushes
- Clear sealer
Steps:
- Head into the garden to look for a few rocks to paint. The smoother the surface, the easier they are to paint on. Also look for flat stones that will blend in with your garden beds.
- Wash any dirt off the rocks to prepare to paint. You can spray a layer of clear sealer or a priming layer of white paint to make the colours pop.
- Now is the time to get creative! Pick a few plants from the garden you want to identify and paint them on the rocks. You can also paint a few garden bugs or flowers as pot decorations. You may need a few layers of paint for the colour to stand out.
- Once the paint is dry, add another layer of clear sealer to stop the paint from running or chipping.
- Take your rocks and lay them on the soil in front of your plants to identify them.
Tip: You can also use rocks of different shapes to create more three-dimensional garden paintings. Try painting a few small houses on rocks to create your own miniature fairy garden.
