Have nonflammable materials outside

Choosing a proper exterior is one of the most effective ways to protect it from fire. The exterior of your home should be built with brick, as they are harder to burn compared to building planks.  Nonflammable materials, such as fibre-cement siding can come in handy when protecting your home.

Walls without fireproofing materials are likely to transfer the fire from the ground up to your room. Making sure most of your home materials are fireproof is vital.

Protect your windows

Windows are usually the weakest link to your home. The windows offer the fiery inferno a potential opening into your home. Extreme flames of fire can shatter the window’s glass with ease.  What you can do to protect your home is to choose insulated double-glazing with tempered glass on the exterior instead of the normal single-glazing windows. Although they can be on the pricey side, they offer great protection.

Create landscaping barriers

A good landscaping barrier can also come in handy. Creating a fire-resistant barrier using plants, stones, and other nonflammable masonry around the house. When choosing plants, select plants that are not highly flammable. Use stone and less flammable plants such as aloe or any succulent cacti plants. Keep the plants and stones a few meters away from your home.

This strategy is called the non-combustible zone. A good fireproofing setup that surrounds your home will slow the fire or distinguish the blaze.

Consider fire doors

There are different elements you can add to your home that help slow a fire’s path. Implement a fire door in your home to prevent a fire from spreading quickly. Fire doors are doors made with dense materials that have fire-resistant properties. This means they can ward against most flames and smoke better than regular doors.
