Most flowers bloom in warmer weather, therefore there are only a few known flowers that bloom in cooler climates such as autumn. Autumn is known for shedding trees flowers and fruits that go out of season. However, there are flowers that particularly bloom in Autumn.
Here are five Indigenous flowers that bloom in Autumn:
Shasta daisy (Leucanthemum × superbum)
Shasta daisy is a hybrid flower that thrives in cooler climates. This perennial flower has a classical daisy appearance with white petals and a medium-round yellow disc in the center. The Shasta daisy is what most people consider to be the poster child for the perfect daisy — pure white she-loves-me-she-loves-me-not petals radiating from a sunny yellow center.

Agapanthus
One of our native botanical treasures, without a doubt, is the agapanthus. Agapanthus, or lily of the Nile or African lily, is the sole member of the subfamily Agapanthoideae in the family Amaryllidaceae. Although it has been bartered to all countries on the planet, it grows naturally in southern Africa, where it grows wild in all provinces but the Northern Cape, Lesotho, Swaziland, and Mozambique

Geranium (Pelargonium)
Often known as geraniums, pelargoniums, or storks bills. Geranium is also used as the botanic name and common name for a separate genus of closely allied plants, likewise known as cranesbills. Both of these genera are members of the family Geraniaceae, and all the species were originally placed by Carl Linnaeus in a single genus, Geranium, which was then separated into two genera by Charles Louis L’Héritier de Brutelle in 1789.

While autumn is typically a season of falling leaves and dying flowers, for some flowers, it is also a season of resilience and beauty. These autumn bloomers native to the area, Shasta daisies, African daisies, agapanthus, and geraniums, bring splashes of colour and vitality to cooler climates.
Their ability to thrive in this period of change illustrates nature’s resilience as they show that flowers can still bloom even as seasons shift. They remind us, whether they grow wild or in gardens that are tended, that each season has its own flower wonders.
