And just like that, Halloween is down the hatch, and the festive season is fast approaching. Suddenly, all window displays, street lights, living room corners and radio jingles start to echo one thing: Christmas time is here, happiness and cheer!
And Mariah Carey has officially declared the festive season to be in full swing.
Now, as we all know, busting out your best tinsels is a part of getting into the festive spirit, but I’ve taken a backseat to the maximalist approach to Christmas decor this year.
I know, I know. It’s a special moment, retrieving and dusting off the old box of Christmas decorations from the garage. Strips of vibrant green, red and gold tinsel mixed in with your favourite festive baubles and homemade stars for the top of your tree. It’s like reliving a childhood moment with the same joy and excitement every year. Trust me, I get it!
I will always treasure my box of tinsel and baubles, but I want to take a more sustainable approach to my Christmas decorating this year. I want my decor to be clean with very few colours that don’t overwhelm me, and I want to keep the plastic to a minimum.
Well, what is a choosy woman to do about her Christmas decor? She researches and finds only the best of the best. I’ve done the work, now I’m passing my knowledge on to you!
The following minimalist decor guide for the festive season is comprised of items sold by small businesses and artists who share a genuine excitement for the festive season. Some of these goodies could even pass off as all-year-round decor, which I love. Without further say or ado, let’s jump into the festive pool:
