As with every event he puts together, Stefan Norval of Afresh Event and Design approached his table with a show-stopping effect in mind
Stefan took the traditional theme to its glittering extreme by creating a striking centrepiece using gold spray-painted aloes, air plants and pine cones as well as a collection of interesting leaves he found in his garden. “I enjoy thinking out of the box and looking at ways to repurpose things I find or have at home,” he says. “So for this table, any vase, bowl and container I found that wasn’t the right shade got sprayed gold,” he says.
To balance the high-impact metallic scheme, Stefan used a combination of subtle textures provided by the leaves and succulents as well as the burlap-covered plank placed in the centre of the table and wooden rounds cut from a tree trunk. “In addition to textures, I like to vary the heights of the decor and candelabra and include an element of surprise as a conversation starter,” he says gesturing to the large gold leaves.
