When redecorating her bedroom, the owner of this KZN home wanted to add stronger, more masculine elements to balance the feminine shade of pink
The owner of this KZN home wanted to use a fabric in her favourite shade of pink, Lino Lino from St Leger & Viney. Realising that her husband wouldn’t go for an all-pink scheme, she asked interior designer Michele Throssell to add stronger, more masculine elements to balance this feminine shade.
Michele started by covering the owner’s classic wingback in the pink fabric, adding a contrasting grey houndstooth print from St Leger & Viney to the base cushion and backrest. A dove-coloured geometric print from George Baker was chosen for a pair of more contemporary armchairs. To ensure there’d be a subtle pink theme running throughout the room, these were topped with a beaded scatter in the same pastel shade and a similar hue chosen for the blanket on the bed.
The owner’s wooden headboard was painted to tone in with the rest of the look. Together with a bold, striped rug from Paco, a botanical Romo wallpaper from Intertex and an ethnic Nguni hide ottoman, this large headboard ensures the bed takes centre stage in this sophisticated, yet eclectic space.
To bring in a warmer, more personal feel, framed black and white family photographs were mounted on the wall and twin lamps from Cécile and Boyd’s were placed on the bedside tables to give an ambient glow. Lastly, an antique table was introduced to give the owners space to display an array of interesting and sentimental objet.
