Table Mountain cable car to shut down for seven weeks

Table Mountain Aerial Cableway has announced that it will shut down the cableway for annual maintenance from Monday, 15 July to Sunday, 1 September.

The cableway will re-open on Monday, 2 September, according to a recent post on their website.

The closure of the cableway for an extended period of time is set to be in line with their maintenance schedule and ‘in accordance with international standards’.

The cable replacement will be the first since the cableway was revamped in 1997, along with the hanging and running gear per Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) specifications.

Commercial and public outlets and operations at both the Upper and Lower Stations will remain closed to the public for the duration of the maintenance, which includes shops, restaurants and ablution facilities.

While maintenance will be undertaken, Table Mountain itself will still be accessible to hikers, with only the hiking trails that are directly under the pathway of the cables being closed.
