Step-by-step instructions
Follow our simple steps to make the best Father’s Day present ever. Get your kids to choose the colours and the mug design. This will create a more joyful moment knowing they chose the mug for Dad.
Step 1: Prep your surface
Before anything, make sure you wash your mug with soap and rinse it well. Set out our work surface and cover it with paper towels or newspapers. A protective surface allows you to keep your space clean when working with paint.
Step 2: Apply primer paint
Before you paint your design, apply a surface primer to the mug to help the enamel paint stay on the surface of the mug. Use a paintbrush to apply a coat of primer around the mug. Let the primer dry before you paint the mug. A couple of hours should suffice but make sure the primer is completely dry.
Step 3: Apply handprint on the mug
Help your kids apply paint to the entire surface of their palms. Be sure to clean your child’s hands. Use a nice flat brush to spread the paint, completely covering the entire palm and fingers. The paint must be nicely thick and make a perfect handprint. Help your child place their hand on the mug’s surface, keeping still and making sure they complete the handprint. Use a thin brush to customise the mug and write their name with paint. Let the paint and the handprint dry completely before using it.
Step 4: Ready for use
After a couple of days, you may start using the mug. Before usage, ensure it is dry enough, as you don’t want to stretch the paint off when washing it. If completely dry, you can now let your child surprise dad with this special sentimental gift.
Dad will appreciate the gesture and can always use the mug when making hot chocolate.
