The tea party hosted by Le Creuset to raise awareness for CANSA ticked all the right boxes for a fabulous spread, while kindling enthusiastic camaraderie, says gardening chief-sub-editor Diane Peacock

Tea parties are an ideal opportunity to pull out all the decorating and entertaining stops

This month Le Creuset hosted 400 guests at a Cuppa For CANSA fundraiser at The Polo Room, Inanda Club in Sandton, Jo’burg. With By Word of Mouth catering the affair, it was a grand event that raised a whopping R79 085.

Ideas for an elegant tea party include: cake stands with colourful macaroons, strawberry knotted skewers and cake pops. The freshness of strawberries makes a good companion to heavy sweetness

Breast cancer, or any other cancer for that matter, certainly isn’t something to celebrate, but being able to do something about it, is. October has been declared Breast Cancer Month worldwide, prompting a host of tea parties and other events to encourage awareness and to provide support for sufferers of the disease.

“Sugar and spice and all things nice, that’s what (little) girls are made of…” goes the popular rhyme. In a nod to the idea that pink is the ultimate girl colour, breast cancer awareness associations have adopted it as their brand colour. By Word of Mouth used it predominantly in a bright theme with pretty, summery floral table runners and tons of flowers

In Britain ‘a nice cup of tea’ is the solution to just about any calamity. An invitation to tea is usually a social occasion promoting companionship where the best china is used and the eats are elegant and plentiful – this event was no exception.

A teatime spread should also include savoury items and on the menu was this giant sausage roll topped with toasted sesame seeds. Sliced, it made an ideal finger food
